Bikes and Boots Cottages are located in the far South-Western corner of Virginia where the Appalachian Trail and the Virginis Creeper Trail cross paths. The town is a step back in time where locals don't lock their doors and everyone knows each others names and family history. There are no stop lights and you can walk to everything.
What's Happening?
Damascus is the home of the best rails to trails bike and hiking path in the country. The Virginia Creeper Trail, where you can ride a shuttle up to the White Top Station and coast down the 17 miles to Damascus, or ride 16 miles to Abingdon and have lunch and then ride or shuttle back. Abingdon is also the home of the Barter Theatre with live stage theatre shows year around. Nearby is Backbone Rock which is a natural formation you can climb or head up the trail to the Appalacian Trail. Mount Rogers recreation area is next door and has many hiking trails. The Appalachian trail cuts through the town and gives you a challengeing hike in either direction heading 400 miles towards Springer Mountain Georgia or 1700 miles towards Katadin Mountain in Maine. There are many more trails to hike and area cycling for either road or mountain bikes. Damascus has its own craft brewery and hosts the Appalacian Trail Days in May when the population goes from 840 to over 5,000.
